An interactive exhibition of digital art spread across 5,000 square metres opened last month to the public at The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. The immersive exhibit staged by teamLab – a renowned international collective of artists, programmers, architects and mathematicians – is one of the biggest investments yet in a non-gaming attraction by The Venetian Macao’s operator, Sands China Ltd.
Called “teamLab SuperNature Macao”, the exhibition features never-before-seen art installations and is billed as a “body-immersive” interactive experience for families and solo visitors of any age. teamLab SuperNature Macao is a permanent feature at the resort.
“These remarkable installations allow visitors to explore new perceptions of the world and the relationship between humans and nature, empowering them to immerse their bodies in the artworks with others, influencing and becoming a part of them,” Sands China said in a press release to announce the exhibition’s opening.
Among the highlights of the show are intriguing, constantly changing works of art such as “Valley of Flowers and People: Lost, Immersed and Reborn”, and “Inverted Globe Graffiti Nature – Red List”. Other exhibits demand that visitors jump, hop or slide through realistic-looking, yet otherworldly, settings. The works surround visitors on all sides and across an 8-metre-high roof, and convoluted layouts emphasise their three-dimensional nature.
Art collective teamLab was formed in 2001 in Tokyo. Its work has been featured in exhibitions around the world, including in New York, London, Paris, Singapore and Beijing. One of the collective’s most popular permanent exhibitions opened at the MORI Building in Tokyo in 2018, attracting more than 2 million visitors in its first year of operation.
