Macao welcomes launch of smart-travel permit application system to facilitate procedures for visits from Mainland China

The Bureau of Exit and Entry Administration of the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China launched a smart-travel permit application system at exit and entry administration counters throughout the country from 1st November, to simplify the processing of applications for visits to Macao.

On behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Central Government and its relevant ministries and departments for their full support on the matter. Ho Iat Seng said that the measure would offer greater convenience to Mainland China residents who apply for travel permits to visit Macao, thus contributing to the recovery of the city’s economy and tourism industry.

The facilitation for travel permit application comes as visitors from Mainland China to Macao are expected to increase, as part of the gradual implementation of the favourable measures of the Central Government to help Macao’s economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures include the resume of package tours, along with the reinstatement of the electronic travel permit issuance under the individual travel scheme for visitors from Mainland China to visit Macao, starting from Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian provinces plus Shanghai municipality (For more details please check here).

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) actively cooperates with the Mainland’s smart-travel permit application for visits to Macao and the expected increase of visitors as the favourable measures are gradually implemented. It has been strengthening its online and offline publicity and promotional activities in relation to the string of events that are scheduled to happen in Macao at the end of the year, plus it has been supporting the city’s tourism industry when it comes to optimising related tourism products and enriching “tourism +” elements. At the same time, MGTO has been making detailed arrangements to welcome tour groups to the city, provide high-quality tourism services and promote Macao’s profile as a safe and quality destination.

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will proactively prepare for and work in line with the relevant facilitation measures for smart-travel permit application, as well as give full play to “MICE + tourism” advantages in the city. IPIM will also put in more resources to connect trade visitors from the Mainland, to improve the commercial efficacy and experience of trade visitors from the Mainland when they participate in Macao’s conventions and exhibitions.
